Chopin’s last song was composed to words by Zygmunt Krasiński, written in a lofty style, employing biblical language and imagery. Chopin expanded the poetical text by repeating the word ‘zapomnieni’ (‘forgotten’) in the last line. This song was published by Fontana under the title ‘Melodia’ (Melody). Józef Sikorski recognised the exceptional beauty of this song: ‘In this music, Chopin raised himself to his own lofty heights’.
