In the last of the three Waltzes, Op. 34, in F major, Chopin returned to the style represented by the first of his waltzes (in A flat major) and at the same time to the style in which the Waltz in E flat major, Op. 18 was composed. As a typical Grande Valse Brillant, it wows us with its sparkling bravura, but it does not spin out any dance narrative. Compact, succinct, expressed in a symmetrical form and employing highly distinctive means, it pulls us into the whirl of amusement and of a dance that is danced like an oberek, and so to the point of breathlessness.
