John Perry

John Perry

The pianist and teacher John Perry completed his musical studies in the piano class of Cecilie Genhart at Eastman School of Music. He honed his skills as a Fulbright scholar under Władysław Kędra and Carl Zecchini.

He has won prizes in international piano competitions, including First Prize in the International Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competition, First Prize in the International Gian Battista Viotti Music Competition and a distinction in the International Long-Thibaud Piano Competition.

As a teacher, Perry is known and esteemed throughout the world. He is a professor of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and of California State University, Northridge in Los Angeles. He has also given guest lectures at Boston University and at USC Thornton School of Music. He has founded his own music school, the Southern California Music Institute in Los Angeles, where he is artistic director. He also gives summer masterclasses in many countries around the world, including in Italy, Germany, the US and Canada.

He has sat on the jury of major music competitions on many occasions. In 2005, he was a juror of the 15th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.
