Rosalba Agresta

Rosalba Agresta studied piano at the Vibo Valentia Conservatory in Italy (diploma in 2000), then in 2004 completed a course in musicology at the University of Siena, with a dissertation on the sources and interpretation of Chopin’s Ballade in A flat major, Op. 47. After gaining a master’s degree based on research into Chopin’s English editions at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes de Sciences Sociales in Paris, she is now preparing a doctoral thesis at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris on the reception of Chopin’s music in England between 1830 and 1860.

She has presented papers at several international conferences on Chopin and on Romantic music. Her publications include ‘Chopin in music criticism in nineteenth-century England’, in Chopin and his Critics: An Anthology (ed. Irena Poniatowska). She works at the Bibliothèque nationale de France (Paris) for the RISM (International Inventory of Musical Sources).
