Władysław Broniewski

*17 XII 1897 Płock, †10 II 1962 Warszawa

Polish poet, translator, soldier. In 1915, at the age of 17, he joined the Polish Legions. Author of the famous poem Bagnet na broń published in 1939. In 1940 he was arrested by NKWD, released in August 1941 and joined the army formed by Anders. In 1945 he returned to Poland. He was a poet and he also worked as a translator, translating maliny Russian and German literature i.s.: the works of F. Dostojewski, A. Tołstoj, M. Gogol, S. Jesienin, B. Brecht.
