Ning An has won several internationally renowned competitions, including the Cleveland International Piano Competition in the USA, 1997 (3rd place), the Queen Elisabeth International Competition in Brussels in Belgium, 1999 (3rd place), the Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition in Spain, 2002 (3rd place), the William Kapell International Piano Competition in College Park, USA, 2003, (1st place).

In 2000 the pianist won first prize at the American National Chopin Piano Competition in Miami, Florida. Later that year he received an honorary mention at the 14th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.

His concert career since 1993 includes the performance of Sergey Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto in C minor with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and appearances with many renowned orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Belgian National Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Stuttgart and Taipei, and the Philharmonic Orchestras of Warsaw and, this year of Poznań, Łódź and Białystok. The repertoire he performed was varied. In 2001 the pianist went on a world tour with the Orchestra of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw.

Ning An's appearances also include recitals in a number of venues, e.g. Palais de Beaux in Antwerp, Salle Verdi in Milan, Salle Cortot in Paris, and participation in international music festivals, including the Gina Bachauer Piano Festival in Salt Lake City, USA, the Bourglinster Festival in Luxembourg, the Interlaken Music Festival in Switzerland and the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój, Poland, 2000.
