Tamara Guseva – 9th Prize winner, 4th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (1949). Tamara Guseva started learning piano with Tatiana Nikolayeva at the Central Special Music School at the Moscow Conservatoire. From 1944 to 1949 she studied at the Conservatoire with Henry Neuhaus, later becoming assistant to Lev Oborin at the same institution (1950–1953).

Her first significant success was winning 4th Prize at the All-Soviet Music Performance Competition in Moscow in 1945, at the age of 19. In 1949, Guseva was awarded 1st Prize (ex aequo with Yevgeny Malinin) at the International Youth and Students Festival in Budapest, and 9th prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw.

She started a prolific concert career during her studies. The core of her repertoire has always been Chopin, whose music was particularly well suited her artistic personality. But she has also been a keen performer of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Miaskovsky, Shostakovich and Khachaturian.

Tamara Guseva was a soloist at the Moscow Philharmonic during the 1950s. From 1959 to 1966 she taught at the Moscow Conservatoire.
