Lorenzo Coppola

He studied period clarinet with Eric Hoeprich at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Since 2004, he has taught historical clarinet at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona. He has worked with such specialist historical performance ensembles as the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy, Les Arts Florissants, La Petite Bande and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Drawing on his experience and his knowledge of old performance practices, he leads workshops devoted to the work of an orchestra without a conductor during rehearsals and concerts. He is pursuing research into the historical relations between theatre, opera and instrumental music. As a keen chamber musician, he has played with such artists as Andreas Staier, Isabelle Faust, Alexander Melnikov, Bernhard Forck and Hidemi Suzuki, and also the Kuijken Quartett, Ensemble Zefiro, Manon Quartett, Quatuor Terpsycordes and Ensemble Dialoghi. His discography features recordings of chamber music (with Andreas Staier, Ensemble Dialoghi, Ensemble Zefiro, Kuijken Quartett and Freiburger Barockorchester) for such labels as Harmonia Mundi, Callyope, Astrée-Auvidis, Challenge and Sony.
