Laura Czosnowska

Laura Czosnowska

Countess Laura Czosnowska nee Górska [2. voto Labarthe] - daughter of Franciszek Górski (c. 1778-1846) and Maria nee Wasilewska (his first wife). Their son Wladyslaw was staying at Mikołaj Chopin's house.

Laura, very much liked by the Chopin family and often called Lorka, was the wife of Jan Janusz Czosnowski, who in 1831 shot himself in front of her driven mad by the jealousy for her. Laura went to Paris where she has been in touch with Chopin quite often.

In July 1846, invited by George Sand, she visited Nohant with Grzymała, but she was not welcomed very warmly there.

Chopin dedicated her the Mazurkas Op. 63.
