Raul Meloncelli

Raoul Meloncelli. After his music studies in Rome at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory he became an  alumnus of  Adrian Aeschbacher in Zurich and Magda Tagliaferro in Paris. He graduated in Liberal Arts at the University of Rome "Sapienza" with a thesis in Music History. Then he became fellow and later teaching assistant of Luigi Ronga at the University "La Sapienza" where he has been Professor of Music History from 1970 through 2003. He also taught Music History and Piano at the Pontificio Istituto di Musica sacra.

Currently he teaches Music History at the Unilink Campus of the University of Malta.  He has been editor in chief of the Music section of the Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (Enciclopedia italiana) and he is member of the executive board of the National Institute for the work of Nicolò Paganini and of the National Edition of the work of Vincenzo Bellini.

He has published work on the italian and french musical theatre of the nineteenth and twentieth century, on the romantic piano and on the vocal chamber music of the  nineteenth and twentieth century. He edited the Italian epistolaries of Liszt and Mendelssohn.

Since 1980 he collaborates with the University Jagiellonska in Cracovia where he lectures on Italian Music. Since 1999 he attends the International Musicological Congress "Chopin and his Works in the Context of Culture" in Varsavia.

In addition to his academic activities he performs as pianist, mainly focusing on Lieder repertoire and on the Italian and French chamber music. He has performed in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, China and North Corea, as well as at important Italian Institutions.
