Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barakovsky, born in 1945, the composer and conductor, left the USSR in 1974 and now lives in Switzerland.

Some critics define his music conception as "musical anthropology". His main works are all part of a global work-in-progress called "Anthology of Archaic Rituals - In Search of the Center".

He has presented his works at various festivals - the Venice Biennale (1977, 1979), "Steirischer Herbst" in Austria (1977), Witten festival (1975), Almeida festival in Lndon (1989), "Alternativa" in Moscow (1991), Musiktriennale in Cologne (1994), in Salzburg, Zurich, Munich, Paris, Tokyo, Milan, etc. His works were recorded by MEGADISC Classics, DORON Music, Valois-Auvidis and BIS and received "Diapason d'Or" and "Choc" du "Monde de la Musique"s.

Together with Martha Argerich he played and recorded, among others, works by Messiaen and Schumann for EMI and several CDs of music by Rachmaninov, Brahms, Mozart, Dukas, R.Strauss and Ravel for TELDEC Classics.

As a conductor he has given public performances in Japan, France,Denmark, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and Russia.
