Józef Bohdan Zaleski, man of letters, representative of the Ukrainian school, author of lyrics to Chopin's songs. In 1820 he came to Warsaw and studied at the Warsaw University. In 1831 he participated in the November Insurrection.

Zaleski belonged to Warsaw artistic circle. He knew young romanticists - S. Witwicki, S. Goszczyński, E. Odyniec, D. Magnuszewski, M. Mochnacki and he also met Chopin. Since 1832 Zaleski lived in Paris and there he was in contact with a composer. His wife was Chopin's student. In 1842 Frederick became the best man at their wedding and composed and played the unknown composition Veni creator.

In Paris Chopin wrote few songs to Zaleski's poems: Reverie (1840) op. posth., Handsome lad (1841) op. 74 no. 8, The Double End (1845) op. 74 no. 11, There is no need (1845) op. 74 no. 13.
