* 1962

Jack Gibbons - English pianist and composer. His performances in the world's most famous concert halls, for example in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Albert Hall in London were frequently rewarded with a standing ovation and his recordings were awareded many prestigious fonographic awards and received fine reviews. His compositions were successfully plaied in USA and Great Britain.

As a pianist Gibbons has been performing in public since the age of 10. In 1979, so as a young pianist of 17, he made his debut in London giving a recital entirely devoted to the music of the French pianist and composer Charles-Valentin Alkan. In 1982 Gibbons won the Newport International Pianoforte Competition for his performance of the Piano Concerto No 4 by Beethoven with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Two years later he made his debut in Queen Elizabeth Hall in London performing the Goldberg Variations by Jan Sebastian Bach, Gaspard de la nuit by M. Ravel and Piano Sonata in b flat minor by Chopin. "London Times" defined Gibbons as „a British responce to Ivo Pogorelić".

In 1990, after few years of break in the concert activity caused by the intensive work as a composer, he gave a recital in Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and presented the entire collection of solo piano pieces by George Gershwin. The programme contains the world premiers of Gershwin's improvisations reconstructed by Gibbons thanks to very detaild transcriptions of the old recordings from the 1920s and 1930s.

A year after, so in 1991 in New York, Gibbons met Gershwin's sister - Frances Godowsky.  In 1994 he performed in New York and Washington and next year he gave a concert during the BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall in London presenting Gershwin's Blue Rapsody.

His promising career was interupted in March 2001 when he sustained very serius injuries in a car accident. He returned on stage very promptly which was commented by the press as "a miraculous return".

Gibbons is regularly performing all over the world: in USA, Great Britain, Irland, France, Netherlands, Italy and also in Africa and Australia. He performs with the best English and American orchestras: Birminham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, Halle, English Northern Philharmonia, New Jersey Symphony ecc.

He is most famous of his interpretation of the music by three composers: Alkan, Chopin and Gershwin. The music of Chopin is the core of his repertoire.
