One of the world's leading harpsichord and fortepiano players, ANDREAS STAIER is a master of Baroque, Classical and Romantic repertoire. In 2014, he was named ‘Artist of the Year' at the International Classical Music Awards. Born in Göttingen, he studied modern piano and harpsichord in Hanover and Amsterdam. For three years, he was harpsichordist of Musica Antiqua Köln, with which he toured and recorded extensively. As a soloist, he has performed throughout Europe, the US and Asia, with orchestras such as Concerto Köln, Freiburger Barockorchester, Akademie für alte Musik Berlin and Orchestre des Champs-Elysées. Staier has formed a piano trio with violinist Daniel Sepec and cellist Roel Dieltiens, and has also performed with fellow keyboard players Christine Schornsheim, Alexander Melnikov and Tobias Koch, the German baritone Georg Nigl, violinists Petra Müllejans and Isabelle Faust, clarinettist Lorenzo Coppola and other world renowned artists, including Anne Sophie von Otter, Pedro Memelsdorff, Alexej Lubimov and tenor Christoph Prégardien. He has recorded extensively for BMG, Teldec Classics and Harmonia mundi France, garnering numerous awards, including a Diapason d'or, Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and Gramophone Awards for his C. P. E Bach concerti with the Freiburger Barockorchester and a selection of seventeenth-century German and French harpsichord works. Highlights of the 2014/2015 season have included concerts with clarinettist Lorenzo Coppola for the release of a new recording of the Brahms Sonatas, a recording of Schubert's music for four hands with Alexander Melnikov and a European tour with the Freiburger Barockorchester.
