Alexey Zuev

The Russian pianist Alexey Zuev was born in 1982 in St Petersburg. He began learning piano aged seven at music school, before enrolling at the Special Music Conservatory for Gifted Children in St Petersburg. He also took part in masterclasses given by such well-known musicians as John O’Conor, Lev Naumov, Victor Rosenbaum and Sergey Dorensky.

He has performed in a music festival on the island of Elba (1997), with Sir George Solti’s World Orchestra for Peace under the baton of Valery Gergiev in the Stars of the White Nights festival in St Petersburg and the Moscow Easter Festival (2003), and also in the Oleg Kagan Music Festival in Kreuth (2004), Kissinger Sommer (2005), Winterzauber in Bad Kissingen (2005), Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festspiele (2005), Klavier-Festival Ruhr (2008) and Festival Sankt-Gallen. In 1999, he won Second Prize (first prize not awarded) in the Third Sergey Prokofiev International Competition in St Petersburg, and in 2002 an educational scholarship at the London International Piano Competition. In 2003, he was a grant-holder of the Herbert von Karajan Centre in Vienna. In 2004, he won the Klavierolympiade in Bad Kissingen, and in 2008 came fifth in the Svyatoslav Richter International Competition in Moscow.

He has performed in recitals and concerts in Luxemburg, Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Russia. Since 2000, he was been a student of Alexey Lubimov at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and since 2007 of Elisso Wirssaladze at the Hochschule für Musik und Teater in Munich.

In 2009, he performed during the ‘Chopin and his Europe’ festival in Warsaw.
