Magdalena  Oliferko

Magdalena Oliferko - musicologist and organist. She completed her musicological studies at the University of Warsaw (2005), organ music studies at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg (2010) as well as specialized studies in historical performance practice at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, in Switzerland (2011), receiving concert diplomas in Prof. Wolfgang Zerer’s organ class. She also studied, among others, under direction of Prof. Lorenzo Ghielmi, Prof. Andrea Marcon (organ, maestro al cembalo) and Prof. Menno van Delft (harpsichord). A grant holder of many foundations, among others, Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung. Since 2012, she has been the titular organist of the St. John’s Reformed Church in Bern. Currently, she is preparing her Ph.D. thesis under direction of Prof. Irena Poniatowska.

Her interests in musicology are focused on Chopin and early keyboard music. She has been carrying out a thorough research on Julian Fontana and his relations with Chopin. She is the author of the book, Fontana and Chopin w listach (NIFC, Warsaw 2009), numerous articles and projects connected with Fontana. She contributed to creating entries for the currently being developed Chopin Lexicon (edited by Mieczysław Tomaszewski). She has presented her papers in many countries in Europe and Cuba (among others, during the III International Chopin Congress in Warsaw, 2010, international scientific conferences of Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini in Italy, 2010, 2011). Since 2007 she has been associated with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw.
