Dominik Wania graduated with distinction from Andrzej Pikul’s class at the Cracow Academy of Music in 2005, and from 2006 to 2008 studied with Danilo Perez and Jerry Bergonzi on the jazz department of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston (USA), benefitting from a Presidential Scholarship awarded by the Helena Foundation.
He has taken part in many masterclasses in classical music and jazz. He has won First Prize in the competition for the Professor Tadeusz Żmudziński Scholarship in Cracow (2001) and First Prize in the Trio category in the 7th International Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Cracow (2003). He has performed with outstanding jazz musicians: Tomasz Stańko, Jacek Kochan, Janusz Muniak, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Bronisław Suchanek, Zbigniew Wegehaupt, Piotr Baron, Maciej Sikała, Piotr Wojtasik, Grzegorz Nagórski, David Liebman, Marcus Miller, Joey Baron, Lee Konitz, Marilyn Mazur, Nguyen Le, George Garzone, Gary Thomas and Eddie Henderson. He has recorded for radio, television and disc, taken part in many classical and jazz festivals and won many prizes in jazz competitions, including individual prizes in the finals of the 7th All-Poland Jazz Standards Competition in Siedlce (2003) and the 41st Jazz on the Oder Festival in Wrocław (2005), and First Prize in the 2nd Jazz Pianists Competition in Warsaw (2005). He has performed in concert in many countries of Europe and in the USA.
In 1997, he was invited by the Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski to a gathering of outstandingly gifted youngsters. In 1998, he won the Town of Sanok Prize for Culture and the Arts, in 1999 was awarded a scholarship by the President of the Council of Ministers and in 2007 was made an honorary member of the Sanok Music Society. He is also a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. In 2008, he was a laureate of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage’s ‘Young Poland’ Scholarship Programme.
He also teaches on the Contemporary Music and Jazz Department of Cracow Music Academy and at the Institute of Jazz of Katowice Music Academy.
In 2010, he performed in the ‘Chopin and his Europe’ festival in Warsaw.
