Kornel Wolak

An internationally renowned soloist, chamber musician and teacher, praised for his beautiful tone and technical precision. John Terauds (critic of the Toronto Star) noted his ‘control, and a smooth, elegant expressivity’. He performs regularly in Canada, Europe, the US, China and South Korea. He has appeared with such ensembles as the PoznaƄ Philharmonic, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, Orquesta Sinfónica de Loja (Ecuador), Slovak Sinfonietta, Kelowna Symphony, Quebec Symphony, Toronto Sinfonietta, Charleston Symphony and Indiana University Orchestra. A laureate of many international competitions and prestigious awards (incl. the Presser Foundation), he has also received a nomination for the Polish record industry’s ‘Fryderyk’ awards. A major part of his work is teaching clarinet technique, and he is the author of academic publications and also Rodzaje staccato [Types of staccato], highly popular among clarinettists. He studies playing technique at the Speech and Stuttering Institute of the University of Toronto. In the 2018/2019 season, he will be touring China, Brazil and the US. He is currently teaching clarinet at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. He performed at ‘Chopin and his Europe’ in 2011.
