He graduated from the Academy of Music in Katowice, Prof. Józef Stompel's class. During master-classes he worked with Dang Thai Son, Peter Donohoe, Victor Merzhanov, Bernard Ringeissen, Lee Kum Sing, John Perry, Andrzej Jasiński, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Krystian Zimerman.
Prize-winner of national and international piano competitions in: Takasaki (Second Prize, 2001), Finalist in Tallinn (2006), Lisbon - Vianna da Motta (Fifth Prize, 2007), Pretoria (Sixth, 2008), Oslo - Concours Grieg (Second Prize, 2008), Tbilisi (Third Prize, 2009), Campillos (Third Prize, 2009), Milan (First Prize, 2010), Laurignano (First Prize, 2011), Timisoara (First Prize, 2011), Verona (Second Prize, 2012), Frascati (First Prize, 2012), Kerikeri (Second Prize, 2012), Lissone (First Prize, 2013), Caraglio (First Prize, 2014). He is a semi-finalist of the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw (2005). Triple laureate of the National Chopin Competitions in Warsaw (2003, 2004, 2005).
He received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture (on six occassions), Prime Minister, Polish Children's Fund as well as the "Młoda Polska"award.
Szczepan Kończal has appeared at many venues in 17 European countries as well as in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China, Japan and Canada.
He has peformed during Chopin Festivals in Nohant, Duszniki and Wasaw as well as other festivals in Poland (Warsaw, Słupsk, Łódź) and abroad (Kuressaare, Oeiras, Locarno, Milan, Istanbul, Tbilisi).
The pianist has performed with such orchestras as Sinfonia Varsovia, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Turkish Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Gulbenkian, and such conductors as: Antoni Wit, Tadeusz Strugała, Marek Pijarowski, Jerzy Swoboda, Michał Klauza, Michał Dworzyński, Andres Mustonen, Arjan Tien, Peter Csaba.
