Graduated with honours from the class of Waldemar Tamowski at Katowice Music Academy before pursuing postgraduate studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin with Michael Wolf. He has participated in masterclasses with Tadeusz Pelczar in Łańcut, Klaus Stoll at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg and Gary Karr in Wrocław. He took private lessons with the legendary concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Michel Schwalbé. A prize-winner of double bass competitions in Elbląg, Poznań and Marktneukirchen, he has been awarded grants by both the Polish Ministry of Culture and the Arts and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. He was a member of that orchestra from 1992 to 1997, performing in Europe’s most prestigious concert halls under distinguished maestri such as Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, Neville Marriner and Riccardo Chailly. During the years 1993–96, he was principal double bass of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra Katowice. From 1998 to 2002, he led the double bass section of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Since 2002, he has been a member of one of the world’s oldest and most renowned ensembles: the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Since 2004, he has also been a member of the Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum, an early music ensemble formed by Gewandhaus musicians that cultivates the traditions of the ensemble founded by Telemann and later led by Bach himself. He also performs regularly with the Leipziger Bach Collegium and Virtuosi Saxoniae. As a soloist, he has performed with the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra, Silesian Chamber Orchestra and the Gewandhaus’s chamber ensemble. He has given recitals in Poland, Germany and Austria. He took part in an enthusiastically received performance of Józef Nowakowski’s Piano Quintet during the ‘Progetto Martha Argerich’ festival in Lugano. He has performed in three previous editions of ‘Chopin and his Europe’ (2014, 2016, 2017), at the Lugano Musica festival as part of ‘Progetto Martha Argerich’ and in a Chopin Birthday Concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic (2017). He also plays on a recording of chamber works by Józef Nowakowski and Józef Krogulski released in the Chopin Institute’s ‘Music of Chopin’s Times’ series.
