Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. Polish poet, prose writer, dramatist and translator. Iwaszkiewicz, both a friend and relation of Karol Szymanowski, had a solid musical education and in his youth even made attempts at composition. In his literary creations there often appear musical themes (in his work dedicated to Chopin, 'Summer in Nohant', among others). The writer also authored the libretto to Szymanowski's 'King Rodger', reminiscences 'Meetings with Szymanowski' as well as monographs on J.S. Bach and F. Chopin. The Chopin biography is an elaborated essay and has undoubtedly literary qualities. Based on an analysis of primary sources from the period in question, particularly Chopin's correspondences, the author creates a convincing psychological portrait of the composer while discussing, often in an original manner, some of his works.
