Polish pianist, pedagogue, editor and publicist. He began studying the piano in Warsaw with I. Krzyżanowski. In 1858 he began his career as a pianist. Between 1859 and 1866 he studied in the Paris Conservatiry with A. F. Marmontel and in 1862 he made his debut in France. In 1866 he came back to Poland and in 1869 settled in Warsaw where in 1871 he was one of the founders of the Warsaw Music Society and between 1887 and 1889 was a pedagogue in the Warsaw Institute of Music.  

Between 1880 and 1894 he was the owner and editor-in-chief of the periodical Echo Muzyczne, where he published many articles about the music of Palestrina, Liszt, Brahms, Wagner, Żeleński.

In 1869 for the first time he analysed the sketch to Chopin's piano method. In 1882 he was the editor of the 10 volume edition of Chopin's works published by Gebethner and Wolff.
