Wilhelm von Lenz
*1 VI 1809 Ryga, †19 I 1883 Petersburg
Music lover and pianist-amateur of a German origin. In October 1842 he met Chopin, who agreed to give him piano lessons twice a week. Lenz's stories confirmed by other sources, are a very valuable source of information about Chopin's requirements as a teacher. Chopin selected the repertoire for Lenz very carefully, not allowing Lenz to practice the pieces requiring advanced piano technique such as Scherzo Op. 31.
