Małgorzata Jaworska

The pianist Małgorzata Jaworska is a graduate of Cracow Academy of Music, where she studied under Ludwik Stefański (1980). On completing her studies, she embarked on a career as a concert pianist. Since 1984, she has lived in Norway, where she has played in countless concerts. She has performed in front of His Royal Highness Prince Haakon, heir to the throne, and Her Royal Highness Princess Mette-Marit. She also gave a recital in the ‘Three Polish Days’ festival (2008) organised for the tenth anniversary celebrations of the Polish Consulate in Trondheim.

Towards the end of the nineties, she enhanced her repertoire with works by the Norwegian composer Thomas Tellefsen, a pupil and friend of Chopin, which she performed across Norway, helping to revive interest in that largely forgotten composer. She continued that work in Poland, where she was the first to play works by Tellefsen at the Dom Polonia in Cracow (1998) and Warsaw Academy of Music (1999), as well as performing his Concerto in G minor, Op. 8 with the Rzeszów Symphony Orchestra (2006). Jaworska is also a highly regarded interpreter of the works of Chopin, and in Chopin Year 2010 she performed works by Chopin and Tellefsen at the Florianka Hall in Cracow.

She recorded all Tellefsen’s solo works onto four CDs (1999–2007) for the Polish label Acte Préalable. Those recordings were dedicated to Her Royal Highness Queen Sonja, in commemoration of her seventieth birthday (4 July 2007). In Poland, she has recorded a CD with works by Chopin, Grieg and Beethoven (1989).

She was a member of the Honorary Committee of the Norwegian Celebrations of Chopin Year 2010, under the auspices of the Polish Embassy in Oslo, where she gave the final recital of that jubilee year (1 March 2011).

She was voted ‘Outstanding Pole of the Year’ for 2013 in Norway, in the ‘culture’ category.
