Mochnacki Maurycy, Polish literary and music critic, pianist, participant and chronicler of November Insurrection (he was awarded the Virtuti Militari distinction). He studied law at the Warsaw University. In 1823 he was arrested for membership to the Independent Association of Polish students.  In 1825 he was coeditor of the "Warsaw Daily" - there he published his first manifesto of romantic ideas.

He published numerous texts about music, including articles about Chopin (in the "Warsaw Daily" and other magazines). He was also a pianist and composer. In Warsaw he met Frederick Chopin and they played together during the meetings of the Warsaw artistic circle.
