Karol Szymanowski - Polish composer. His early works show the influences of Chopin. He is the only Polish composer after Chopin, who developed a form of mazurka. In 1924-1925 he composed 20 Mazurkas op. 51, in 1933-1934 2 Mazurkas op. 62, in 1925-1926 Four Polish dances, including one Mazurka. Szymanowski's mazurkas are different from mazurkas of XIX century, they present the perfect marriage of the generic features (triple rhythm, varied tempo, ABA reprise form, wealth of shades of expression) and Szymanowski's individual style with its 20th century composing technique, strong emotionality and elements of the Podhale folk music style

Szymanowski is also the author of speeches and texts about Chopin, published in Polish and French magazines ("Skamander", "Wiadomości Literackie", "La Revue Musicale"). These texts were collected and released by Kornel Michałowski (K. Szymanowski, Pisma muzyczne, Kraków 1984).
