Li Min-Chan – 4th Prize winner, 6th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (1960).

Li Min-Chan received his musical education in Shanghai. His first teacher was Yu Pen-Min, followed by Tatiana Kravchenko. Starting with 1957, he studied at the Higher Music School in Shanghai in the class of Natalia Hornowska – a Polish teacher working on a contract in China and a participant of the 3rd Chopin Competition in 1937.

Mr. Min-Chan is winner of three international piano competitions: the Smetana Competition in Prague – 3rd Prize (1957), the Enescu Competition in Bucharest – 1st Prize (1958) and the Chopin Competition in Warsaw – 4th Prize (1960).

For many years, Mr. Min-Chan performed in many venues throughout the world, focusing on Classical and Romantic composers as well as of contemporary Chinese authors. He has made several records.

Aside from performing, Li Min-Chan also teaches at the Fine Arts and Music Department of the Baptist University in Hong Kong.

He was a jury member of the 13th Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1995, and sat in the juries of competitions in Bucharest (1964), Sydney (1981,1988), Fort Worth (1989), Paris, Montreal, Santander and Shanghai.

His name is variously spelled as Li Min-Chan, Li Ming-Qiang, Ming-Qiang Li.
