Julia Kociuban was born in 1992, in Cracow. She began learning piano at the age of five. From 1998 to 2006, she was taught by Olga Łazarska. In 2010, she completed her schooling with distinction at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Secondary School of Music in Cracow. Since 2007, she has been a pupil of Professor Piotr Paleczny and since 2010 has attended his piano class at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She is currently also an Erasmus student at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg with Professor Pavel Gililov.

 

She has won prizes in many Polish and international piano competitions, including the International Milosz Magin Piano Competition in Paris (2005), the Chopin Competition for Children in Jelenia Góra (2005), the International Competition for Young Pianists ‘A Step towards Mastery’ in St Petersburg (2007) and the All-Poland Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2008). In 2011, Kociuban won the Jury Prize in the ‘Les Jeudis du Piano’ cycle for young pianists organised by La Société des Arts de Genève and Third Prize in the European Piano Competition in Ouistreham/Caen, France. In 2012, she was a semi-finalist in the International Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, Germany.

 

In 2000, she received assistance from the programme for outstandingly gifted youngsters run by the Polish National Children’s Fund in Warsaw. She has also received many prestigious grants, including from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Kociuban has performed in concert in many countries of Europe and in North America and taken part in many international festivals, including La Roque d’Anthéron (2010, 2011), the Young Euro Classic in Berlin, the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw and the Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój. In 2009, she undertook a three-week-long concert tour of the USA. She has performed many times as a soloist accompanied by various orchestras, including the Cracow, St Petersburg, Lower Silesia and Silesia philharmonic orchestras, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, Sinfonietta Cracovia and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Her recordings have been broadcast by Polish Radio and Television and by France Musique. She also performs with her brothers in a family trio and in the DUOKociuban
