Polish composer, pianist and pedagogue. He studied in Kiev and Warsaw (math and law) and also between 1920 and 1924 at the Music High School in Warsaw (piano with A. Michałowski and composition with F. Szopski and W. Maliszewski). He continued his compositional studies between 1929 and 1932 in Paris with Nadia Boulanger.
In 1924 he began to give concerts as a pianist in Poland and abroad - he player in France, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, England and USA. In 1927 he took part in the first International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.
He worked as a pedagogue - between 1924 and 1939 he was the professor of the piano and theory of music at the High School of Music in Warsaw.
After the war he continued to give concerts and work as a pedagogue. He taught in Katowice, Cracow and Warsaw. Among his students there were pianists: Urszula Mitręga, Zofia Owińska, Irena Protasiewicz, Monika Sikora-Wojtacha, Maria Szraiber i Zbigniew Śliwiński and composers: Tadeusz Baird, Wojciech Kilar, Witold Szalonek, Józef Świder, Romuald Twardowski, Piotr Paweł Koprowski.
In 1964 he stopped giving concerts and devoted himself to teaching.
He was the member of the jury of many international piano competitions - in Warsaw, Bolzano, Montreal, Budapest, Paris, Rio de Janeiro.
