About the Festival About the Festival

The International Music Festival Chopin and his Europe took place between 2nd and 10th September 2005. The festival was organised by NIFC in cooperation with the National Philharmonic.

The performance of Orchestra of the 18th Century, conducted by Frans Brüggen, was the culminating point of the festival.  The orchestra presented Chopin's pieces performed in an original sound with the use of the instruments of that time for the first time in Poland. The musicians also performed symphonies of Beethoven. Outstanding pianists participated in the festival: Nikolai Lugansky, Dang Thai Son, Fou Ts'ong, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Nelson Goerner. We witnessed a combination of the historical vein of interpreting Chopin's music and the tradition of Chopin's performances associated with the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, a mixture exceptional from the point of view both of artistry and marketing. The confrontation took place the day before the next edition of the competition.

Honorary Patrons of the festival were Minister of Culture – Waldemar Dąbrowski and the President of Warsaw – Lech Kaczyński.
