NIFCDVD 003 Johannes Brahms - „Ein deutsches Requiem” NIFCDVD 003 Johannes Brahms - „Ein deutsches Requiem”

On the 180th anniversary of the birth of Johannes Brahms, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute is releasing the German composer’s masterful Ein deutsches Requiem, recorded at the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Warsaw during the Seventh International Music Festival ‘Chopin and his Europe’. This is the first ever audio-video edition of Brahms’s Requiem on historical instruments – in an exceptional performance by the soloists, the choir Collegium Vocale Gent and the Orchestre des Champs-Elysees under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe.

This DVD is part of the cycle ‘Romantic Requiem’, presenting recordings of funeral masses by nineteenth-century composers, which, performed at the Holy Cross Basilica in front of Chopin’s heart, represent a singular tribute to the great Polish composer.

Produced in HD technology, with supreme sound quality, these films stylishly convey the unique atmosphere of the concerts and their special venue.
