The history of Żelazowa Wola is inseparably connected with Fryderyk Chopin’s life. Is it this place, where the Polish composer was born 200 years ago. And despite the fact that Chopin’s parents moved to Warsaw when Fryderyk was an infant, the whole family was returning to Żelazowa Wola for holidays and vacations.
The new book by Mariola Wojtkiewicz for the first time orders the history of Żelazowa Wola from the moment when Ludwika Skarbek bought the manor till the present times. The author on the basis of documents and sources tried to verify and explain some mistakes and wrong conclusions present in the conventional wisdom till today, enriching the content of the book with numerous new details and settlements.
The book is divided into two parts. In the historical part, describing the history of the manor throughout the XIXth century, the reader will find information about the shape and look of the manor, the exact place of the birth of Chopin, and also details concerning the friendship between Chopin family and Skarbek family. The book also systematizes the knowledge about the owners of the manor after the Skarbek family. This part ends with the chapter telling the reader about the ceremony of unveiling the monument of Chopin in 1894.
