In the mazurka that occupies third place in opus 6, in E major, it is rustic intonations and motives that dominate – like a drone fifths bass of changing accentuation and a Lydian fourth in the lilt of the melody. In this mazurka, as well, the sharp, robust gestures and rhythms of a mazur intertwine with the gentle gestures and rhythms of a kujawiak. The mazur has two themes: the principal theme, returning like a refrain, and the secondary, episodic theme (in the dance, it calls for a clicking of heels). The kujawiak appears, floats between reverie and animation… and then disappears.

As a whole, the E major Mazurka gives the impression of a folk tableau – for Kleczyński, a wedding scene. Whatever the case may be, we have before us a reflection of some once heard and remembered country gaiety, somewhere on the regional border between Cuiavia and Mazovia.
