The Prelude in E flat minor, the fourteenth in the cycle, acts transgressively. The wild, quick, loud unison of the two hands gives the impression of music that is almost barbaric. It is often assigned to the category of scherzotic preludes, bringing sombre and eerie colours. It is led at a swift tempo, with strongly chromaticised figuration.
