Amaltea Verlag was founded by dr. Heinrich Studer in Wien, Leipzig and Zurich in 1917. In 1962 the publishing house was bought by dr. Herbert Fleissner and incorporated into the publishing group Buchverlage Langen Muller Herbig.

The publishing house was really successful in publishing musical biographies, and established its position with the realization of an extensive programme that put emphasis on publications concerning Austria, biographies of rulers and historical fiction.
