AMFC Vocal Consort

AMFC Vocal Consort

The members of this ensemble are specially invited artists distinguished by their skills, knowledge and experience. They comprise mostly music academy lecturers, graduates and students, representing a broad range of musical disciplines, such as vocal and instrumental performance, musicology, music theory, conducting and sound engineering. They share a common fascination with the choral literature and a desire to make music together. The ensemble's repertory encompasses a cappella and vocal-instrumental works from all eras. Artistic director and conductor of the ensemble since its founding is Professor Ryszard Zimak.

The AMFC Vocal Consort upholds the artistic principles of the Chamber Choir of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, which in the years 1986-1991, under the direction of Ryszard Zimak, achieved great success with concerts both at home and abroad. In 1987, it won First Prize in the international competition 'Let the Peoples Sing', organised by the European radio broadcasters BBC and Deutschlandfunk. The fruits of the Chamber Choir's endeavours include the premieres of such works as Listy Polskie [Polish Letters] by Marta Ptaszyńska and Hic postus est Copernicus by Antoni Szaliński, as well as numerous archive recordings of works by Polish composers, including Mikołaj Zieleński, Karol Szymanowski and Kazimierz Serocki, made for Polish Radio and Television.

The inaugural concert of the AMFC Vocal Consort took place on 26 February 1997 in the Concert Hall of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. The programme consisted of works by  J. S. Bach and H. Schütz. The AMFC Vocal Consort performs both in Poland and abroad. Among the ensemble's more notable appearances are several performances of Rossini's La Petite Messe Solennelle in Sicily, Bach's Mass in B minor, BWV 232, St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, as part of the cycle of Wednesday concerts at the Music Academy, and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, both in the same Wednesday concerts and at the National Philharmonic. The AMFC Vocal Consort has taken part in various festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, the ‘Dziekanka' Summer Music Evenings and ‘The Stars Promote' in Jelenia Góra.

The ensemble's manager, since its founding, is Małgorzata Szymanek-Piotrowska.
