Barbara Górzyńska

Barbara Górzyńska made her debut at the age of 16, playing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor with the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice under Bohdan Wodiczko. Since then, she has played with wide acclaim in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Spain, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Germany, Sweden, Hungary, Britain, Italy, the USSR, and other countries. She has received awards at three major violin competitions: the Wieniawski Competition in Poznań, Zagreb Competition and the Carl Flesch Violin Competition in London in 1980. Following this latter success, she was invited to perform with the leading British orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and the English Chamber Orchestra. She has also made numerous recordings for Polish Radio, WDR and the BBC. She is also active as a teacher. In 1991-94, she was visiting professor of the violin class at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz.
