Jerzy Miziołek

Professor of Visual Arts and the Classical Tradition at the University of Warsaw (Institute of Archaeology) and the Warsaw School of Social Psychology.

He studied art history and classical archaeology at the Jagiellonian University, receiving his Ph.D. in 1987 and habilitation at the University of Warsaw in 1996; he has been a full professor since 2008.

He has been a fellow of the Warburg Institute (London), the Getty Research Institute (Los Angeles), Harvard University (at I Tatti, Florence), the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, Washington D.C., and Kunsthistorisches Institut, Florence.

He is the author of eight books and more than 130 papers and reviews published, among others, in the Journal of the Warburg Institute, Mitteilungen des Kunsthistorischen Intitutes in Florenz, Arte Cristiana, Prospettiva, Fontes, Renaissance Studies, I Tatti Studies, Iconographica and Arte Lombarda.

He is an international authority in the field of Italian Renaissance domestic painting and an expert in the field of the impact of archeological excavations on visual culture in the eighteenth century.

He publishes extensively on art and education at Warsaw University in the first half of the nineteenth century and also on artistic culture in/of Warsaw in the times of Chopin.
