KAROL MARIANOWSKI - cellist, since 2007 a member of the Meccore String Quartet. He graduated with honours from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, where he was taught by Tomasz Strahl, Kazimierz Michalik and Andrzej Bauer. In 2000, he received a scholarship to study with Andrew Mark at the Boston Conservatory (USA). He has taken part in many masterclasses, given by outstanding teachers and artists, including A. Mai, T. Kuhne, D. Szafrana, M. Sadlo and S. Roldugin. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in Germany, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Russia, Switzerland, the US, Japan and Lithuania. He has appeared in many festivals: the ‘Warsaw Autumn', ‘Musica Polonica Nova', Arvo Pärt's ‘Person of the Borderland' festival, ‘De Musica', the ‘Chain' festival of the music of Witold Lutosławski, the Paweł Szymański Festival, Rheingau Musik Festspiele, ‘Budapest Spring' and ‘Heidelberg Frühling', as well as giving recitals in prestigious concert halls, such as the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, Warsaw Philharmonic, London's Wigmore Hall and the Musikverein in Vienna. As a soloist, he has performed with the Wrocław, Holy Cross and Jelenia Góra philharmonic orchestras, the chamber orchestra of Gdańsk Academy of Music and the Concerto Avenna chamber orchestra, under such conductors as Krzysztof Penderecki, Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski, Łukasz Borowicz, Andrzej Bauer and Andrzej Mysiński. In 2005 and 2007, he received grants from the Minister of Culture, and in 2010 a ‘Young Poland' grant. He teaches cello at the Fryderyk Chopin School of Music in Warsaw and also on the chamber music faculty of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań.
