Valentina Marghinotti

Soprano. Born in Cagliari, Italy, she studied Classics before turning to music. She is a graduate of the Palestrina Conservatory in Cagliari and the Hochschule für Musik in Basle. She won the 7th Prince Francesco Maria Ruspoli International Baroque Music Competition and the 4th Young Singers Competition in Sardinia. She has sung in such works as Orff's Carmina burana, Massenet's La Vierge, Bach's Christmas Oratorio (with Camerata Artemisia) and Haydn's oratorio Jephtha (at the Tonhalle in Zurich with the Capriccio Barockorchester, cond. Joachim Krause). On the operatic stage, she has performed in such works as Pergolesi's La serva padrona (with the Chamber Academy Basel), as Gilda in Rigoletto (in Cagliari), as the titular Mirra in Domenico Alaleona's opera (in Cagliari and Bergamo), in Verdi's La forza del destino and in Paul Dukas's Ariane et Barbe-Bleue. During the 2015/16 season, she belonged to the company of Theater Basel, where she made her debut as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte (dir. Julia Hölscher, cond. Christoph Altstaedt) and in Verdi's Macbeth (dir. Olivier Py, cond. Erik Nielsen), and she has also sung the role of Dido in the stage collage Dido without Aeneas, a collaboration with Theater Basel. She has sung in São Paulo, in the European Day of Early Music in Copenhagen (2016) and in the Esteban Salas Early Music Festival in Havana. 2014 saw the release of a disc on which she recorded works by Fux and Caldara with the Aziel Ensemble.
