Baritone. As a boy, he learned piano, before later devoting himself to vocal studies, honing his skills with Leo Ferri in Rome. He has won many international competitions. He made his operatic debut in La bohème (as Marcello) at the Teatro Vespasiano di Rieti in 1991. He is one of the world's most valued performers of roles in stage works by Verdi. He has performed in major opera houses around the world (New York, Vienna, Zurich, Munich, Hamburg, Barcelona, Beijing, Moscow, Amsterdam, Baltimore, Nancy, Liège, Marseille, Strasbourg, Bologna, Turin, Venice, Rome, Naples, Parma and Verona). He has also appeared in concert in the most famous concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Philharmonic Hall in Munich and Metropolitan Art Space in Tokyo. He has given recital series in Milan, New York, London, Paris, Brussels, Hong Kong, Bucharest and Sofia. He has worked with such conductors as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Myung-Wun Chung, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Oren, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Alain Lombard, Nello Santi, Donato Renzetti and Renato Palumbo, and also with the directors Franco Zeffirelli, Hugo De Ana, Pierluigi Pizzi, Robert Carsen, Denis Krief, Giuliano Montaldo, Jonathan Miller, Beni Montresor, Alberto Fassini, Gilbert Deflò and Renzo Giacchieri. He has performed in many opera productions, including Tosca (Scarpia), Aida (Amonasro), Rigoletto (title role), Il trovatore (Conte di Luna), La traviata (Germont), Nabucco (title role), Atilla (Ezio), Un ballo in maschera (Renato), Otello (Iago), Macbeth (title role), Madame Butterfly (Sharpless) and William Tell (title role). His plans include performances in such operas as Macbeth (1847 version), Simon Boccanegra (title role) in Karlsruhe and Montpellier, Un ballo in maschera (Renato) in Barcelona, Luxembourg and Nancy, Nabucco in Montpellier and Naples, Alzira in Liège and Tosca in Rome.
