Mariola  Cieniawa

Mariola Cieniawa graduated with distinction from the piano class of Tadeusz Żmudziński at Cracow Academy of Music. She also honed her skills with Andrzej Jasiński on a post-graduate piano course at Warsaw Academy of Music and then with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover. Since 1986, she has been running her own class in the Piano Department in the Academy of Music in Cracow.

She has won many prizes, including First Prize and the special prize for the best performance of works by Karol Szymanowski in the All-Poland Karol Szymanowski Competition in Łódź (1983), the jury prize in the  International Piano Competition in Palm Beach, Florida (1989), Second Prize in the International Chopin Competition in Palma, Majorca (1990) and Third Prize in the Chopin Competition in Cologne (1991). She was twice awarded a grant by the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw (1983, 1984).

As a soloist, she has taken part in many major music festivals at home and abroad, including international Chopin festivals in Naples, Mariánské Láznĕ and Duszniki Zdrój, festivals in Turin, International Art Festival in Phenian and the International "Piano Marathon" Madrid-Bilbao.

She is also an active chamber musician. She has performed in concert in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the USSR, North Korea, the USA, the Czech Republic, Japan, Hungary and Italy. She has made recordings for radio, television and disc and sat on the jury of piano competitions in Poland and Egypt.

Since 2002, she has been artistic director of the Summer Music Festival in Krynica.
