Andrzej Chyra (b. 1964) is one of the most outstanding and most decorated Polish actors, valued for his talent both within the film world and by the public.

He has played dozens of leading and support roles in films, serials and television plays. Associated with prestigious artistic projects, he is also renowned for his careful choice of roles and his collaboration with the leading Polish film-makers Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Krauze, Krzysztof Zanussi, Feliks Falk, Marek Koterski and Juliusz Machulski, as well as young, but already acclaimed film directors such as Łukasz Barczyk and Konrad Niewolski. He also uses his experience and talent to support first-time directors, who consequently find it easier to make and distribute their first films.

For his unforgettable creations, he has twice been chosen best Polish actor at the Gdynia Film Festival and is also a double recipient of the ‘Eagle’, known as the Polish ‘Oscar’, awarded by the Polish film industry. He has also won awards in Polish local film festivals (Września, Wrocław) and abroad – in Moscow and recently in Berlin for his role in the film In the Name of.

With the companies of the Variety [Rozmaitości] and New [Nowy] theatres in Warsaw, he has received the best reviews and triumphed many times in international theatre festivals (including in Avignon), mainly for productions by Krzysztof Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna.
