Niccolò Paganini

*27 X 1782 Genua, †27 V 1840 Nicea

Genius Italian violinist and composer. He gave concerts in many European cities and also in Poznań and Warsaw, where in 1829 he played 10 concerts. Chopin was very impressed by Paganini's Warsaw concerts. Paganini had the ability to dazzle the audience with his technique - he was even called the devil of the violin.

Paganini's 24 Capriccios for the violin solo are a compendium of the contemporary violin technique. This set could have been one of the impulses on which Chopin composed his etudes. Chopin did not meet Paganini during his concerts in Warsaw - they met in Paris in August 1837. Eliza Peruzzi brought Paganini along with her for a visit. Paganini, who had never heart Chopin's playing before was enchanted with it.
