„Music of Chopin’s time” is a new series of recordings published by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. Like „The Real Chopin” series, these recordings are made on period pianos, restoring the authentic sound of the music of Chopin’s era. We wish to give the listener a taste of the fascinating world of XIXth century pianos. The aim of the series is to compile a splendid collection of works from Chopin’s musical world in the most outstanding interpretations of artists interested in recovering past beauty.

The first album in the new series contains the recording made in the 1970s in the Ballroom of the Museum of the Łańcut Castle. It was in this ballroom where one of the greatest American pianists – Malcolm Frager – recorded the Symphonic etudes, Op. 13 and Sonata in G minor, Op. 22 by Robert Schumann on Peter Rosenberger period piano from 1845.

Malcolm Frager – laureate of many prestigious piano competitions – is considered one of the best pianists of the second half of the XXth century. He was highly valued not only for his marvellous interpretations of the music of J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, F. Chopin, R. Schumann and S. Prokofiev but also his unique approach to the music manuscripts of such composers as Robert Schumann.
